There’s just nothing like a Legacy Letter workshop.
Writing a final letter to the people you love can feel daunting—but it’s incredibly important. Because at its core, this isn’t about money or assets; it’s about relationships.
After holding a “How to Write a Legacy Letter” event last summer, we knew this was a topic worth presenting again. So for this year’s Spring FOCUS Workshop last month, we had another full room ready to do something meaningful. From the start, there were tears – not from sadness, but from the kind of reflection that comes when you focus on the people who matter most.
Guided by Mark Bain, ChFC®, CFS®, BCM, Managing Director & Senior Wealth Advisor, we explored what a Legacy Letter is – and what it isn’t. As he shared, “This is not a will or trust. It’s your heartfelt words for someone you love.” This isn’t a presentation-heavy workshop. It’s about creating space to write. And people embraced it—heads down, working through memories, gratitude, even regret. There were quiet sniffles, but also a lot of courage.
It’s something so valuable… and yet so easy to put off. Watching people begin that process is always incredibly powerful.
After Mark walked through the eight key steps of writing a Legacy Letter, Ryan Collier, estate planning attorney with Collier Law, shared his own perspective on how a letter like this fits in with an estate plan. He shared openly about the loss of his father – and the regret that a letter like this was never written. That experience shaped his determination to leave something more personal for his own sons.
The feedback was powerful:
“This is exactly what I’ve been needing.”
“I wasn’t thrilled to come, but I’m so glad I came – this was exactly where I needed to be today.”
This is a letter that can change lives and families. If you would like to host Legacy Letter event for your group, we’d love to connect.
